LEADERS of Busu Compound in Lae have laid a formal complaint with police after an alleged attack on community leaders and other people by four officers on March 11.
Ahi village court magistrate Asaria Sam said police were called in to assist them at that time to apprehend a suspect.
Sam said four policemen drove in to help them but instead, let loose by assaulting women and destroying market tables, causing panic among the community.
“When they found that the suspect was not there, they started getting on us and telling us that we were aiding the suspect and started assaulting us,” he said.
“We are traumatised from the actions of these policemen and have felt unsafe since then with police, when we should not feel that way.”
