DEMOLITION work for the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex was given the all clear last week at the official signing of contract by contractor Phoenix Ltd.

Total cost for the facility upgrade and extensions is K52 million.

Documentation was completed at the Government House, Konedobu in the presence of Governor General Sir Michael Ogio, by Pacific Games Venues Infrastructure & Equipment Committee Officials and Pheonix.

“We have been working on a plan and our target is to complete the venue by the end of April 2015,” general manager Kelvin Loh said.

“We have 150 nationals and 50 expatriate supervisors all ready to start straight away with the demolition.

“Our target is one month for demolition but we are subject to surprises, especially after the experiences of the demolition job at the main stadium.”

Loh said that the plan was to initially have two shifts to start right away under close supervision and observation.

“We have divided our time frame into quarters, for the first three months we will monitor progress with our two shifts, but if it comes down to it, we will go three shifts, seven days a week to hit our target in April next year.”

Loh added that the one of the problems of the particular venue was the non-existence of a blueprint which they could use to work around.

“However, despite the late start, we are confident of definitely meeting our quota.”
