POLITICAL parties and their candidates need to comply with the Organic Law on the Integrity of Political Parties and candidates, Registrar of Political Parties Dr Alphonse Gelu says.
Speaking to members and executives of the People’s Movement for Change (PMFC) party at their Road Map Workshop for 2020-2022, Gelu said political party’s with integrity were often smaller parties.
“Bigger political parties put up a one-man show. Party leader does everything and everyone else does nothing,” Gelu said.
“They cause a lot of infighting among themselves, especially the parliamentary and the non-parliamentary wings,” he said.
Gelu said political parties needed to endorse candidates with integrity as the Organic Law also required integrity in the electoral process and the parties.
“It is exciting to work with smaller parties as they stand on their principles.
“Bigger parties forget the fundamentals of the political parties and their principles,” Gelu said.
He said it was pleasing to have PMFC party leader and Governor Gary Juffa at their office to speak to his party officials.
“PMFC can make a great change for this country because the party leader is a visionary leader,” he said.
Dr Gelu said ‘Take Back PNG’ was a visionary statement made by the PMFC party. It is the kind of vision and mission political parties needed to encompass in their dream of changing the country.
Juffa said ‘Take back PNG’ was a registered name with the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) and his party (PMFC) was its sole custodian.
“I am thankful that the Marape-Steven Government is taking on the challenge to demonstrate leadership in taking back the country,” he said.
