Compo demands ridiculous
The National, Thursday February 6th, 2014
I WRITE to express my disgust and serious concerns over huge compensation demands and payments made in Southern Highlands (The National, Jan 29).
In one incident, a tribe was demanding K6 million compensation for several deaths and received K210,000 as belkol money while another tribe had to pay K650,000 in cash .
This is really ridiculous and is a totally unacceptable and damaging attitude as well as a stupid mentality that is evil in nature.
How can you expect a tribe or clan to come up with such a huge amount?
If people are involved in accidents, the insurance company is there to compensate.
People who lead such demands should be arrested.
It is a total disregard for our culture.
Our national security is also at stake here.
I request the government to enact a law to completely do away with compensation demands.
I demand that the police arrest these people before these practices flow into other communities in the future.
