POLICING is everybody’s business and a community obligation to support police work to provide safe environment for everyone, a police station commander says.

Port Moresby’s 6-Mile station commander Senior Inspector Fred Barre made said this last Thursday when receiving a donation of logistical support to strengthen the station’s reporting system.

Barre and his officers were presented a computer set, printer and

a refrigerator worth K8000 by water company Eda Ranu at their office.

Barre said policing had a lot of important components and one was reporting where they required proper tools such as computers.

“In today’s age we need computers to help us do reporting,” Barre said.

“Through the use of these equipment, it will help us to keep the government abreast on what’s happening in our area and improve our communication with the people.”

He said he had 38 officers working under him on a four-shift rotation.

Eda Ranu manager for commercial services Paul Gore said the donation was part of their ongoing community service.

“We are happy to assist thein their duties because their work is always challenging,” Gore said.

“We appreciate the officers at 6-Mile for maintaining law and order especially in that area where there are always reports of ethnic conflicts,” he added.

In appreciating the gift Barre said they had a network with the community leaders and youths in 6-Mile who were assisting police to reduce the number of crimes happening in their area especially at the market and shops.

He commended the commuity for their support, adding such relation would see them reduce the number of crime happening.
