PEOPLE in Rai Coast in the Astrolabe Bay LLG want Madang Governor Jim Kas to investigate what is delaying the construction of Yowor and Minjeng bridges in their area.

Astrolabe LLG president Amili Deide raised the concern with Kas and other LLG presidents last week.

Deide said his MP James Gau had provided the K16 million required for the construction of Yowo Bridge.

He said the bridge was expected to be completed by the end of last year.

Deide said his people had confronted him several times about the progress of the construction by South Korean company Sun Moon and Star Design and Engineering Company.

The company was engaged in 2011 to build bridges in the district.

SMS had started off well in 2011 and 2013 but work slowed down in mid last year, Deide said.

He said the foundation and pillars for Yowor Bridge were constructed but many locals did not understand why work had stopped.

He said the Yowor Bridge was still under construction when Gau rushed the feasibility study of the Minjeng Bridge for K8 million.

Deide said more than 20,000 people living in that part of the district needed the two bridges.
