EDUCATION Minister Jimmy Uguro says there is a big problem across the country regarding teaching positions.
Uguro said this last week during the handover ceremony held in Port Moresby.
“We have a problem with teaching positions throughout the country,” he said.
“Our education policy says one teacher, one position, one pay, and many schools have problem with teachers positions, many teachers sitting on two or double positions.”
Uguro said the department needed to rectify this issue and make sure there was one teacher, one position in the coming academic
year.
This is the challenge goes to teachers service commission to ensure our teachers are paid on one position, they get one pay, he said.
“I know that teachers’ pays are not paid at a higher rate like in Australia and other places, we are still struggling to get up there in terms of our economic struggles but I think in the future, our teachers in the country should be paid higher than those working in mines and any other organisation,” he said.
Teachers Service Commission chairman Samson Wagihome, during the event, said the commission, after so many years, had put teachers’ data system together for the
first time and would be launched soon
He said this is to make sure to keep a record on how many teachers teaching in the country.

  • Pay them high, increase school fees but the quality of education in the last decades is so poor in the country.
If there is high quality out put then the government should increase the teachers pay. These days it is just another job.
