Concerns over flag raising

National, Normal

CONCERNS were raised last week in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands province, as to why the flag of Israel was flown above the national and provincial flags at a church gathering.
People asked if it was a sign of undermining our country or proclaiming that Israel was somewhat above PNG.
The Living Word Network Ministries International, a church just recently introduced to the country, was responsible for raising the flags because it was celebrating the “Feast of the Tabernacle.”
A spokesman,  who is also part of the organising committee, said the feast was currently being celebrated in Israel, and since they couldn’t make it there, they were celebrating here instead.
People from Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and parts of the country flocked into the province to commemorate the event.
The National was told that the Israel flag was flown higher simply because they were celebrating an Israeli event and wanted to portray that in biblical times, the Israelis were known as God’s chosen people, so raising the Israeli flag meant they were children of God, too.
