FLY River student leaders at the University of PNG have raised concerns over the death of a student at the Gordon market bus stop last week.

The student from the Institute of Business Studies died after he was allegedly stabbed.

Student leader Dan Liyeliye said the police should act promptly to arrest the suspect because the police station was next to the bus stop.

He called on Moresby North-East MP Labi Amaiu and NCD Governor Powes Parkop to improve public safety at Gordons market  “which is going from bad to worse”.

Liyeliye appealed to Western Governor Ati Wobiro and other MPs to assist the student’s family to pay for funeral costs.

“The incident is an eye-opener to the police force, as well as the responsible MPs in Port Moresby and Western to do something about criminal activities,” he said.

“Change the atmosphere because crowds attract opportunists.

“This has been an ongoing problem and something needs to be done to solve it once and for all.”
