Confederate club champs ready for showdown

ALL four confederations have determined their champions for the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League-sanctioned national club championship in Lae.
PNGRFL competition manager Toksy Nema told The National that Brothers (Southern), Lae Pirates (Northern), Hagen Kui Raiders (Highlands) and Kokopo Takubar Brothers (New Guinea Islands) would lock horns in the Nov 28-30 tournament.
He warned the teams to follow the competition rules which allowed for only one Kumuls, Hunters or Digicel Cup player to be included in their sides.
Nema said PNGRFL was aware of teams of breaching the rules.
“We will monitor this in Lae and remove these elite players from their respective teams,” he said.
“We are trying to promote and develop potential talent at this level and not see elites competing against them.”
PNGRFL will only allow 24 personnel — 21 players and three officials — per team to attend the championship, Nema said.
After the Nov 30 final, PNGRFL is expected to hold a presentation for team and individual awards.
Nema said all the confederate directors and PNGRFL board members were expected to attend the event.
