THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League’s annual general meeting will be on February 27 in Port Moresby.
This was reconfirmed yesterday by PNGRFL chief executive officer Bob Cutmore, pictured.
He said the meeting, which would involve the four confederation directors and league presidents, would be staged at Bluff Inn, 17-Mile outside the city.
“The AGM is for annual reports furnished to the national body and not to elect office bearers for the new PNGRFL board as their terms expire in 2017,” Cutmore said.
He said current chairman Sandis Tsaka would continue in his position until the AGM next year.
Cutmore confirmed that the PNGRFL would present their audited annual financial reports and one amendment to the national league’s constitution to have the period be from January to October and not January to November. He said the same applied to the 44 affiliated leagues that the were obligated to present their annual reports during the AGM.
“We have 13 leagues that have failed to affiliate and may not attend the AGM.”
Cutmore said only affiliated members would be eligible to attend the AGM to present their annual reports as well as the reports from the four confederates.
The four confederates are headed by Russ Kaupa (Northern), Gwaibo Mairi (Southern), Horta Boski (New Guinea Islands) and Joe Tokam (Highlands.
“The financial reports should be audited by a recognised and registered auditing firm with proof of certification,” Cutmore stressed.
The CEO said it was crucial the four confederates Southern, Northern, Highlands and New Guinea Islands convened their own AGM’s with their affiliates before presenting their annual reports to the PNGRFL.
Cutmore said that the respective affiliates had the powers to vote for new Confederate directors if they were not performing their duties effectively and transparently.
He revealed that several affiliates had raised concern about the accountability of the Confederate leaders especially with the management of money collected from the affiliates.
Cutmore advised the affiliates that the only way to raise these issues was during the confederates meeting as the national body was not directly involved in their affairs.
“Financial mismanagement issues are very serious with public monies not accounted for.
