A CHRISTIAN church in Lae, Morobe, is on a fundraising drive to raise funds for a new church building which is estimated to cost K350,000.
Church of God (COG) head pastor Aiya Pokoi said the congregation had raised K80,000 through fundraising and contributions.
“We are fast tracking the fundraising now and are hopeful to have the building up before our 20th anniversary which is on Sept 16, 2020,” Pokoi said.
He said the anniversary celebration in Lae would include members from around the country and abroad.
More than 5,000 people are expected to attend the event.
The church established a bible school in Kudjip, Jiwaka, and plans to establish schools and health posts in the Momase and Highlands regions.
The purpose of providing these basic services is to administer the word of God through services provided by the church.
Pokoi said the Church of God had 20 churches nationwide and 24 pastors, but needed more pastors.
“The aim of the church with its mission is teaching and preaching the word of God, training people with life skills and evangelism,” he said.
“This is so to get as many souls to Christ and make them His followers.”
Pokoi said COG was a welcoming church that was ready to work closely with other denominations to spread the Good News to the people.
US-based missionaries from the Church of God, Manning and Jane Thornton, visited the Lae congregation to support their endeavour.
Manning Thornton told The National yesterday that the church in PNG was growing and their coming to the country was to support that.
