Congress supports NGCB’s announcement of casino project
THE Trade Union Congress supports the National Gaming and Control Board (NGCB)’s announcement to develop Papua New Guinea (PNG)’s first casino project. “The project will provide employment opportunities and broaden the country’s tax base,” union assistant general-secretary Anton Sekum said. “It also brings much needed foreign currency,”. “We believe there is also immense potential for job creation. “There will be quite a number of jobs created in the market and that is something we stand on to support this initiative by the NGCB. “We need to create opportunities for our economy, we need to create those opportunities so that our children and those who are not working will get a fair opportunity to gain employment.“It is not just a casino. “We need to look at the spinoffs generated from the casino project and business.
“The thing here is that we should be happy about jobs and business creations, especially in tourism-related services.“In general, it will have an impact on broadening the tax base and income tax base of the country. “That is the biggest thing we must appreciate.“If there is no opportunity, we must create opportunity for ourselves, we must not only rely on the extractive industry and others. “In terms of the tourism industry, the spin-offs from the casino project and business are potentially significant.
