EDA Ranu has cautioned water consumers in Port Moresby to use water wisely as they are relying on only one source to supply the city.

General manager commercial services Paul Gore said consumers must understand that if water was used carelessly, everyone would suffer. “The Sirinumu Dam is running dry and is reaching critically low levels because there has not been enough rain to fill the dam to full capacity,” he said.

“Water rationing exercise will continue until such time when we have enough rain to fill the dam,”

He said some consumers were still ignoring water conservation warnings and wasting water.

Gore urged consumers to take precaution by practicing safe water practices. “Do not water your gardens, flower beds and cars and do not use hoses or open the taps and let water run to waste.

“Please limit the time you have shower and use as little water as possible. Probably, you can use buckets but don’t do laundry or wash from a running tap.”
