Consider Piu LLG chairman’s story

Letters

I SUPPORT my brother Lorenitz Gaius on his comments in The National on Monday regarding the Piu incorporated land group (ILG).
He said landownership and special agriculture business lease of Piu was thrown out by the court.
Though the court had decided many years ago, the Piu ILG chairman is speaking out again because he has something to show.
He has several evidences and witnesses.
He renewed the ILG in 2017, which was gazetted and none of us argued.
From the press release, we see he has evidence of the report of Piu natives doing a transaction of Tungu land in 1935 with master Murray who wanted to build a police post within the Piu portion 8c, 50,000 hectares that the people of Piu claim.
That time, people were migrating and there were not many villages as we have today.
Today we have seven villages and the people regard Piu natives as the landowners. The Piu ILG chairman’s claims are based on evidence and we don’t have to shut the door on him.
It will be better if we ask the other (three) clans to come with theirs.
Let’s make things simple for our leaders and the Government to deal with this case.
We are all excited to see the mine operate so that we can benefit from it but first, we should wait for our brothers to solve their land issues then we can move on the issue of deep see tailings disposal.
