Constable never gave up
RAISED by a single mother, First Constable Moses Nukus yearned to complete tertiary level of education, but he failed to secure a space at any tertiary institution after Grade 12 in 2004.
Nukus did not give up.
He joined the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and found his way into the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG), and on Monday, graduated with a bachelor of business management (professional studies).
From Wara Kar village in Jiwaka, Nukus is currently a member of the mobile squad 10 in Southern Highlands’ Mendi.
“After completing my grade 12 in Fr Peter Secondary School in Jiwaka in 2004, I did not give up and upgraded my marks in 2005, in Mt Hagen Secondary School in Western Highlands,” he said.
“In 2006, I applied and joined the police force.
“I left home and went to Bomana (in Port Moresby) and did my six months training for police recruitment.
“My father passed away when I was a toddler and my mother became both mother and father to raise me and my three siblings.
“After Bomana Police College, I was posted to Mendi, Southern Highlands, where I have been until today.”
First Const Nukus is married with five sons.
“As a child, I had always wished to study in a university and this motivated me to strive for my dream which I have now realised in UPNG.
“I am now a very satisfied man,” First Const Nukus said, adding that his task now was to provide education to his sons.
