THE Independent Consumer Competition and Commission (ICCC) says customer protection is one of its priorities.

ICCC executive manager consumer protection Avi Hubert said providing the actual pricing of the value of goods and services by businesses was a factor that was valuable in maintaining customer benefits.

He said the commission was ensuring that consumers had confidence in its role in that regard.

Hubert said this following a recent inspection by the commission on scale devices used in supermarkets in Port Moresby.

“We want to as much as possible help the consumers.

“While we are doing price monitoring, there are other factors that the trade merchant is a part of. We are trying to make sure all scales are up to the tolerance level so that the consumers get the maximum benefits from these businesses,” he said.

“For us we to make sure the scale is reading correctly and we are certifying it and the customer is not ripped off.

“But we are happy to work with our counterparts to ensure they play their part well.”
