CENTRAL Contractors Association members have commended the National Capital District Commission for organising a meeting for small business operators last week.
Organised by the Urban Youth Employment Project, the meeting saw over 50 contractors attending.
Some questioned the work of the Central Supply and Tenders Board and the Central Contractors Association, while others wanted an assurance that their businesses would be given every opportunity to apply for contracts in the national capital.
Project manager Tom Gilis assured them service contracts would follow strict guidelines and principles of the World Bank when being processed and awarded.
Presentations were made by staff of the Project Management Unit (PMU) and IT Transport Limited, a British engineering firm.
IT Transport Ltd has been contracted by NCDC to provide a roads assessment survey of Port Moresby.
It has already prepared a report that will be given to NCDC.
Many contractors said it was the first time they had come together as a group.
Others said that attending such a meeting was necessary because all contractors would now be in a better position to apply for contracts when they became available.
There were suggestions for similar meetings to be held annually.
