Alluvial miners in Papua New Guinea are among those attending a convention and tradeshow in Lae.
The two-day convention and tradeshow which started yesterday is an initiative of the Mineral Resource Authority (MRA) to promote the alluvial mining sector.
More than 100 delegates, including alluvial miners, regulatory agencies, small-to-medium enterprises, financiers, investors, licensed gold exporters, provincial and local level governments, equipment suppliers and manufactures are participating.
The convention is scheduled to coincide with Apec Mining Week and is held on the margins of the mining task force meeting activities.
The theme is ‘Transitioning the alluvial mining sector for growth’.
MRA’s acting managing director, Nathan Mosusu, said the purpose was to promote and provide awareness in the sector.
“MRA, as the regulator of all mining activities in PNG, continues to observe an increased interest in the alluvial mining sector, but also notes the problems that exist,” he said.
