THE Cook Islands will send a competitive team to the Pacific Games in Port Moresby, Sports and National Olympic Committee secretary-general Robert Graham says.

The 184-member contingent will be led by Tereapii Tapoki — the Pacific Games record holder in the women’s discus.

The team is looking to cause upsets in athletics, golf, rugby league 9s, touch, netball and Va’a (canoeing).

Graham said with the inclusion of New Zealand and Australia in sailing, weightlifting, taekwondo and rugby 7s the competition will be even tougher, and the Island nations would have to rise to the occasion.

The Cook Islands will compete in 13 sports: athletics, beach volleyball, bodybuilding, cricket, golf, bowls, netball, league 9s, sailing, soccer (women only), touch, va’a and weightlifting.
