A TOTAL of 200 cooperative societies in Jiwaka’s Anglimp-South Waghi have received K2.5 million worth of pumps and chemicals for agriculture.
Jiwaka MP Joe Kuli said cooperative societies must ensure that each member benefitted from the support being provided by the Government.
Kuli said this last week at the presentation of pumps and chemicals to the cooperative societies for agriculture.
“Agriculture development is a priority because Anglimp-South Waghi has the biggest land mass with fertile soil, ideal for farming,” he said.
“We need to create more farmers to supply markets in the Highlands and other parts of the country.
“Do not become spectators on your own land, but work your land towards nation-building.”
Kuli said he believed farming could create wealth and make life different and meaningful for the local communities and other Papua New Guineans.
He said many people were lazy and that was why they were finding life as boring and not meaningful.
Kuli said his focus was on empowering the agriculture sector because about 80 per cent of the population depended it.
