Cop commends men for part in elections

THE Commander of the Mt Hagen-based police Mobile Squad group (MS) 05 has commended his men and the CS platoon 2 for their part in containing election violence in the highlands region.
The MS 05 commander Insp Kauga Maragil made the remarks at Hotel Kimininga in Mt Hagen at a farewell dinner held by the two joint forces after their task had been completed.
He said managing a combined force and setting out to contain a population that was heavily political was difficult but his men had pulled it off with the assistance of the defence force.
He said the highlands region was volatile but his men had shown that a well-managed unit could pull it off successfully.
Maragil said there had been rumours of arms buildup in the highlands but nothing of that sort was encountered.
He said people were cooperating well to cast their votes.
Maragil praised the two combined forces and the defence force for making a tremendous job in bringing about a reasonably safe elections.
