THE shooting of a young man by policemen at the back of Nadzab Market in Morobe early this month is under investigation.
Morobe police commander Supt Alex N’Drasal said the man was shot on the left thigh on Sept 11 which resulted in his death.
“(A) couple of policemen were involved in the shooting,” he said.
“The deceased was in the company of others.
“Police sent the others away (but) they questioned the deceased and later shot him on his left thigh.”
Supt N’drasal said after being shot, the deceased was rushed to Angau Hospital but died later due to loss of blood.
“We know who these guys are and I have tasked my policemen to get to the bottom of this,” Supt N’Drasal said
He said once those involved were arrested, they would be charged with murder.
“I will not tolerate such actions taken by police in my command,” he said. “These policemen are not above the law and for them to do such actions on someone who is armless, harmless and vulnerable is very bad.
“For police to shoot him like this is very bad.”
Supt N’drasal identified the deceased as James Emmanuel Maradi, 22, from Kokopo in East New Britain.
In another case, Supt N’Drasal said earlier this month a policeman attached to the Mutzing police station in Markham was alleged to have drowned at sea at a logging camp in Morobe Patrol Post.
He said a police team was on site to carry out investigations into the policeman’s death.
He said police believed that the policeman was killed on land and his corpse was later taken to the logging tugboat and dumped into the sea.
His corpse was discovered the next day.
Supt N’Drasal identified the deceased policeman as Lista Wanau, 28, from Lumi in West Sepik.

  • how police personnel can investigate police personnel again. its impossible, this is how corruption comes in, no one perfect, they can write a fake report to set free the victim because they serve under same department of police.
