ASSISTANT Commissioner of Police (Border Command) Peter Philip has warned police officers to refrain from physically injuring their partners and avoid compromising their roles by accepting of bribes.
ACP Philip said several police officers under his command had recently been suspended for bashing and wounding their partners and not attending to cases on time.
He said last week two senior officers attached with the Daru (Western) and Wewak (East Sepik) stations were suspended over disciplinary matters while investigations were ongoing.
“This is a year of discipline in the border command,” ACP Philip said.
“This week (last week) two sergeants were suspended for 21 days. The members (policemen and women) should take this as a signal that any crime is a crime whether it be wife bashing, accepting bribes or police brutality.”
ACP Philip said his office would not condone compensation payments or other restitution outside the station.
“We should not be accepting compensation outside of the station. If a member fails to do police work diligently, the station commander or the provincial police commander will be dealt with,” Philip said.
ACP Philip said he was in East Sepik when Provincial Police Commander Supt Albert Beli suspended a probationary constable for issuing his field gear to a civilian.
Supt Beli also suspended a senior constable for assault.
