THE general law and order situation in Madang has been generally quiet recently without any major incidents occurring, provincial police commander Anthony Wagambie Jnr says.
He said a police officer would be serving a four-month custodial sentence after he was found guilty at the district court last Thursday.
Insp Danny Manguo was found guilty by the district court of illegally discharging a firearm and a committing crime while on official duty.
The district court heard last Thursday that Manguo had under the influence of alcohol discharged his firearm at the Ramu-NiCo compound area.
Wagambie urged all policemen to watch how they behaved while on duty.
He said those who performed acts out of their duty description would be dealt with severely.
He said this was the second incident to have occurred there.
In the first incident an officer at the same compound fought with security guards while under the influence of alcohol.
Wagambie said the officer was later arrested and suspended.
