Cop: Many discrepancies in ill-fated trip
The National, Monday 23rd April 2012
THE mv Rabaul Queen’s passenger manifest on its ill-fated voyage had many discrepancies, a police officer says.
Police officer David August, who prepared a data report on April 2 in relation to the sinking of the vessel, appeared before the inquiry last Friday.
He told the inquiry the written manifest was not clear.
“Some of the names were not clear and it did not help us a lot because most of the names given to us at the disaster office did not match the names on the manifest, although some of the names matched the ticket numbers,”
he said.
“Most of the names on the manifest did not go in line with the list of survivors and missing reported at the disaster office.”
He produced a report titled ‘missing persons’ that listed reasons why the manifest had discrepancies.
