Cop ordered to explain bail figure

MT Hagen District Court has directed a policeman to appear in court and explain the K600 bail money allegedly paid by a defendant.
Magistrate Donald Joseph yesterday issued the order after the defendant, Kote Kundi, told the court that she paid K600 police bail and not K200 as stated on her bail receipt.
Prosecutor Snr Sgt Malt Plamb told the court that she was released on a K200 police bail on Sept 5.
Magistrate Joseph told Plamb to inform arresting officer Jimmy Horuavie to appear in court tomorrow (Friday) and explain the K600 police bail allegedly paid by Kundi.
Police alleged that on Sept 5, Kundi, from Kaleta village in Baiyer district, Western Highlands went to Rakingapeta village, also in Baiyer, saw two women working in the garden and verbally insulted them.
Police alleged that she called complainant Regina Kopen by a rude name.
And when her friend Carolyn Paraka asked Kundi why she said that, she called her a sorcerer.
Police said the two complainants didn’t feel good and laid a complaint with Baiyer police. Kundi was charged with two counts of using insulting words under the Summary Offence Amended Act and released on a police bail of K200. Kundi, through her translator, told the court that she paid K600 to the arresting officer. Joseph told prosecutor Plamb to inform Const Horuavie to appear in court tomorrow and explain the bail money paid by Kundi.
Joseph warned Kundi that if she lied to the court, she would be sentenced to jail at Baisu. She agreed to go if the court found that she lied.
The court also dismissed another case and ordered Patrick Pat to get his K500 bail money back. Joseph made a ruling to strike out the case after prosecutor Plamb made an application, telling the court that there was evidence provided by the arresting officer to prosecute the defendant.
