A COPRA buyer-exporter in East New Britain has been giving back to the community to thank the people for their support.
Pacific Lama Traders of Takubar, Kokopo, was one of the first companies in ENB to bring competition in the ENB copra market more than four years ago, and as a result, growers had enjoyed better prices and better services.
Managing director John Seeto said the company has been involved in community support.
He said each year, the company allocates K10,000 towards school fees of growers’ children.
This year, Pacific Lama had extended its community support by donating a further K30,000 worth of facilities and materials.
These included two generator sets to the health care and community support centre at Gar (South Coast); 5,000 litre water tank to Malakuna Primary School (Bitapaka), 5,000 litre water tank to Birar Primary School (Bitapaka), 1,000 school books each to Tapo Primary School and Mope Primary School (Bitapaka) and Mil Mila Primary School (Duke of York).
He said these donations were the company’s way of giving back to the community to thank the people for their support.
“Rather than just giving cash, it was decided that we speak directly with community members and hear what their needs are, and as a result we have responded with the mentioned commitments.”
During presentations, the importance of agriculture to PNG society whether it involved copra, cocoa or coffee were given importance.
