Cops’ inhumane attack unacceptable
The National, Tuesday 28th Febuary 2012
WE, the people of PNG, strongly condemn the police attack on the pregnant woman in Lae (The National, Feb 23).
Nora Duran is not a criminal and does not deserve abuse from those who are meant to protect her.
The actions of those rogue policemen are unacceptable and repugnant.
By law, the police are to question anyone suspected of breaking a law but they cannot abuse whoever and however they like.
This only costs the government millions of kina, which are the taxpayers’ money, in legal suits.
With due respect to the honest and hardworking cops, there is a trend in PNG for a few rogue policemen acting like criminals and bringing disrepute to the RPNGC.
I call on Supt Nema Mondiai and Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga to expedite investigations.
PNG is watching you.
