Cops capture gang leader in armed robbery

POLICE have captured a man who led a 10-man gang to rob the OBS Supermarket in Popondetta town’s Oro Bay on Nov 1, provincial commander Sr Insp Ewai Segi says.
“The gang leader was captured in Popondetta town on New Year’s Day during a police operation at 2am,” he said.
Sr Insp Segi said the suspect was sighted and the taskforce team arrived to pick him up.
Sr Insp Segi said the 10 robbers arrived at the supermarket in three vehicles at 10.25am
“They entered the shop, all armed with weapons and held up the manager,” he said.
“All the staff were ordered to lie down on the floor.
“An undisclosed amount of money was taken with a lot of store goods.
“They fled and exchanged vehicles at the bush track along the Oro Bay Highway and made it back to Popondetta town.”
The suspect was identified from the store’s closed circuit TV camera.
