POLICE would use all resources at its disposal to apprehend those who are responsible for burning down the newly-built police station at Gagidu in Finschhafen, Morobe police commander Augustine Wampe said yesterday.
“I strongly condemn the act and warn those responsible that the law will catch up with them,” he said. “So far, only one suspect has been apprehended and he will be charged with arson.
“During counting, the suspect allegedly threatened to burn down the police station, therefore he was arrested straight after the station was burnt,” he said.
He said an investigation team was currently in Gagidu to investigate the incident before more arrests could be made.
“The former MP Theo Zurenuoc should have controlled his supporters despite his loss. Infrastructure that were built during his tenure should remain as his legacy,” he said.
Wampe said the new police station was built by the Police Department at a cost of K1 million kina.
“The voters have spoken through the ballot papers and it is uncalled for when losing candidates’ supporters destroy public infrastructure like police stations and schools,” he said.
