POLICE investigation team was sent to Lae last week to investigate the alleged police involvement in the shooting of a man from Southern Highlands recently.
Kennedy Embia from Yaken village in the Lower Mendi LLG in the Imbonggu district, is now recovering at the Mt Hagen General Hospital’s intensive care unit after he was allegedly shot two weeks ago.
As a result of the shooting, hundreds of people held a peaceful protest march in Mendi last Dec 16, to show their frustration and presented a K4 million compensation demand.
The protesters also called for an end to the deployment of police from other provinces, or foreign troops as they were often referred to, in SHP.
The protesters demanded K2 million from police, K1 million from SHPG, K600,000 from ExxonMobil, and K400,000 from the Hides Landowners.
Provincial police commander Supt Jimmy Onopia condemned the shooting saying it was unjustified.
