POLICE in Chimbu are looking for a group of men who allegedly killed a man in a village south of the province following a dispute last Saturday.

Provincial police commander Supt Albert Beli told The National yesterday from Kundiawa that a group of villagers from Tabai in the Degine local level government, Gumine, Chimbu, went to a Yul village wanting to investigate five men reported to be in possession of a high-powered gun.

A fight broke out and one of their members was killed.

Beli said during the confrontation, the Tabai villagers fled to the village but one of them did not return. Beli said with the assistance of police, they went into Yul the next day and found the body of the man in the bush.

“He was hit with a hard object on his head. Police retrieved his body,” Beli said.

Beli said the five men who allegedly responsible for the killing of Wii Kansol were reported sorcerers who fled Tabai village and took refuge in Yul village.

“They had hired a high-powered weapon and threatened the Tabai villagers,” Beli said.

Beli said the situation was still tense and they knew the identities of the suspects.
