Cops need to be kept in check

Letters

AS reiterated by a judge “No one is above the law” (The National, “Three cops jailed”, Nov 11, 2021 – Pg1) is a warning to police officers to be professional while serving in the force.
Citizens used to respect police officers but these days, we are afraid of them because of their attitude towards the public.
Such is this case, when officers, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, bulldozed their comrade’s house in an attempt to kill him.
This is a serious breach of conduct by these so-called learned law-abiding officers who are supposed to follow protocols and address situations in a diplomatic manner.
This is now a call to Police Commissioner David Manning to step down as the National Pandemic Controller and focus on the force and the unruly behaviour by your officers.
The position of controller should be given to a person with qualification and experience in health/medicine.
There is so much hype in reporting about the Coronavirus (Covid-19) and Delta variant.
While the country is bracing for a worst, with deaths and an increase in Covid-19 and Delta cases, bad apples in the police force continue to appear and tarnish the reputation of force and costing the State millions in compensation payments.
So many reported cases of rogue officers around the country need attention from the hierarchy.
While we appreciate Manning’s effort as the controller, we would prefer him to concentrate and address so many issues within the force.
