Cops probe two deaths

POLICE in Madang are investigating the death of two young men who were shot at Sisiak outside of Madang town on Friday morning.
Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said two other men were also wounded and admitted at Modilon General Hospital.
He said two houses were burnt down in retaliation for the deaths of the men.
Supt Rubiang said the situation was tense and police were patrolling the area to ensure peace and order among the two community of Sisiak 2 and 3.
He said according to the information collected by police from local leaders, the two youths who were shot and killed were Brian Matik and Max Gundam.
Both were from East Sepik.
Supt Rubiang said Matix was shot in the head while Gundam was shot in the head and both legs.
Supt Rubiang said the two men were part of a group from Sisiak 3 that fought with youths from Sisiak 2.
He said the youths had been warned not to take the law into their own hands and work with the police to arrest those responsible for the killings.
Supt Rubiang said his office had been working with local communities, leaders and young men to report those with guns and other dangerous weapons. He said the recent incident was a result of firearms being in the hands of people in the communities.
Supt Rubiang said leaders, educated elites and people should take responsibility of the issues and work with police get rid of guns in the community by reporting those who were in possession of them.
He said youths in settlements in Madang town and those from the district as well as other areas were not cooperating to make their communities safer.
He said youths living in government compounds were also committing crimes.
