Cops target homebrew trade

MAKERS of homebrew and those who drink it in Simbu are the target of the police weeding grass operation.
Simbu provincial police commander Superintendent Michael Welsh issued the warning over the weekend after members of the operation team returned to Kundiawa police station with 350 marijuana plants confiscated during a raid at Dirma-Dane village in Waiye, Kundiawa-Gembogl district. “If you are involved in these unnecessary activities, and if you are caught by police, you will be facing tough penalties,” he said.
He thanked the officers for their “continuous tireless operation since 2013 to weed out marijuana and steam”. He said they received a tip-off and a team led by Yatefa Welis went to the village to check.
They uprooted more than 350 marijuana plants and arrested those involved in the cultivation. Welsh said another raid was conducted at Gorr village in the Waiye, Kundiawa-Gembogl district where 60 marijuana plants were destroyed.
