THE Papua New Guinea Small-to-Medium Enterprise Corporation is working on a revised five-year plan (2021-2025) and address the revised activity listing, PNG Micro Small and Medium Enterprise Council (PNG MSME) president Des Yaninen says.
“One of the things which we think is important for us is that the Government needs to introduce the reserved activity listing,” he said.
“The reserve activity listing protects Papua New Guinean businesses from foreign competition.
“In the past, we used to have a reserved activity list that protected certain businesses only for Papua New Guineans.
“But now, throughout the rural parts of Papua New Guinea, in the settlements and elsewhere, you see Asian shops everywhere which are actually reserved spaces for Papua New Guineans to do business.
“What we are trying to do is to get the Government to pass it on the floor of Parliament so that we will be able to protect the space of Papua New Guineans.
“Right now, the PNG SME Corporation is working on a revised five-year plan.
“That should be launched by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Commerce and Industry Sam Basil hopefully in the next two months or so.
“The MSME Council has been asked to do a review of the SME policy and we’ve gained some feedback like the reserved activity lists.”
