Correctional Services to name acting commissioner

AN acting Correctional Service Commissioner is expected to be announced today when Michael Waipo’s four-year term comes to an end, an official says.
Public Service Minister Elias Kapavore told The National yesterday that he would announce today who would be acting in the position.
The National Executive Council had wanted to terminate Waipo’s appointment in February 2016 after a ministerial executive appointment committee resolution dated Jan 21, 2016, recommended it for “non-performance”.
But the National Court ordered that Waipo be allowed to complete his term, which ends this week.
The National Executive Council had appointed Chief Superintendent Bernard Nepo acting commissioner.
Nepo said he would resume duty as acting CS Commissioner today because his appointment by the NEC had not been revoked.
