Corrections shines light on budget allocations

CORRECTIONAL Services deputy chief of operations Denise Piandi says there should be a budget allocated to individual supporting agents instead of the main agent controlling the funds in any future combined security operation.
Speaking at the engagement parade of the CS officers last week, Piandi said funding was the major problem during the pre-operational phase while preparing for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) meetings.
CS, soldiers and police are providing a joint security operation for Apec. Police are leading the operation.
“We are supporting groups and budgets have to be allocated according to the activities we run and not others to control funding.
“Similar issues have occurred in past events, during Pacific Games in 2015 and general elections last year,” he said.
“I sympathise with much of the things that you have gone through due to lack of funding,” Piandi told his officers.
Officers were urged to be patient.
CS acting Commissioner Stephen Pokanis said the department would look into the issue to assist the officers during Apec.
