Corrupt practises

Letters

AN issue highlighted by Prime Minister James Marape is the corruption in all levels, both the public and private sectors has paramount importance.
He intends to eradicate corruption practices in the country.
One of the primary issues as the contributed factor is the wantok system or favouritism during the recruitment and selection process.
This has been an ongoing practice in most organisations from my assessment.
Officers involved in this stupor manner of conducting recruitment and selection process are dishonouring to God, respective organisation they work for and the people of Papua New Guinea. Something has to be done to such officers like that.
Maybe, it’s better to cease their employment contract because they are not needed in this kind of environment.
Based on my profession in human resource management, in my own understanding, I want to clarify here that during the recruitment and selection process, the organisation undertakes to define its job needs and attract candidates to fill job vacancies in which choosing the right candidate from all applicants for a particular position.
Employing qualified and suitable candidates is healthy for the organisation to have the best human capital which is one of the intangible assets in an organisation.
Human capital, or employee competence, is the first or arguably most important component of the organisation’s intangible asset.
For example, human capital represents the capabilities of the individuals required to provide solutions to existing issues in the organisation.
Thus, selecting and employing candidates on merit – base will formulate a solid structure for best performance at the expected level in order to maximise productivity and achieved results. Within human capital the skills, knowledge, and capabilities possessed by employees provide economic value to organisations.
Good policies and practices for attracting and selecting the right applicants to be the employees of a particular organisation are critical for building and maintaining a successful organisation.
