DEPUTY Prime Minister Leo Dion says the Independent Commission Against Corruption (Icac) Bill is a vital legislation which will be enacted to address corruption in PNG.
He said the Organic Law on Integrity of Political Parties and Candidates (Olipac) would be available to MPs to deliberate before amendments.
He said this during question time in parliament last Friday when responding to deputy Opposition leader Sam Basil.
“There is a brief in relation to the proposed Olipac law that is being distributed to all members for viewing,” Dion said.
“All the MPs will be given the privilege to see that before it is finally brought to the floor of parliament if there is any need for amendments, it can be made during the process that has already commenced.
“It’s being processed, next Tuesday (tomorrow) there will be a briefing on that subject matter before it is tabled in parliament.
“The Icac is a important bill needed to be passed by this parliament and all of us agreed that this is a important piece of legislation that must be introduced so that all the talks about corruption in this nation can be fully addressed. We will speed up in passing this legislation as it is important.
“In relation to the gun summit, it is a very important report that needs to be pursued by because it touches on secondary aspects of internal and external security of this nation as well. I will make an undertaking to inform the PM before this parliament term ends.”
In relation to Basil’s last question on the gun summit report that was supposed to be brought forward to parliament  to ensure that guns control was carried out by the force to curb all the crimes, Dion said:
“It is a very important report that needs to be pursued.”
