Corruption in the police force

Letters

I SUPPORT the recent call by Central Bougainville MP Sam Akoitai regarding police personnel soliciting funds for the services rendered in the normal course of their duty.
With the exception of a few, most police officers are corrupt and will ask for favours before attending to complaints.
Goroka police are the champions of this.
The highway traffic police are even worse, they collect fines from almost all vehicles passing through Las Malo, or Ai Pas as it is commonly called.
I wonder if these funds are going to the provincial treasury as internal revenue or simply vanish without trace.
The Eastern Highlands provincial police commander has to seriously look into this as a matter of urgency to eradicate this systematic daylight robbery that occurs every day.
The police commissioner should look seriously into this matter and come up with corrective measures as soon as possible.
The sooner, the better.
