Corruption ruining UPNG

Letters

THE recent protest by female University of PNG (UPNG) students haveprompted discrimination and humiliation and compromised the integrity of the premier university that produces countless patriotic citizens who run the affairs of this nation.
The perpetrators were not apprehended and dealt with.
It was an in-house issue that was supposed to be dealt with by the university authorities, but it went beyond that.
The issue was posted on Facebook and gained the public and the media’s attention.
This shows the university administration’s incompetence in dealing with such issues.
Without evidence from the incidents, the UPNG student representative council vice-president led the protest rather than properly coordinating it, which was biased and a slap on the face of our four fathers’ legacy.
Although the protest was part of many feminist movements in the country, it has affected the nation’s leading university.
Indeed a misleading misdeed.
UPNG is made up of five schools – business and public policy, law, humanities and social science, natural and physical science and the medicine and health science.
There are also certificate in tertiary studies (CTS) and external students on campus, except the school of law, which all the students access facilities at the main campus on a regular basis.
Most external students, including the CTS students, reside illegally on campus with their friends or relatives.
Some of them manage to secure rooms and access the dining hall.
The systems in place a weakened by corruption.
We have the wrong people in the wrong place.
The university needs to change its staff from the administration down to the security officers.
It is time to regain our dignity by improving our systems.

Pett-Khay,
UPNG

  • “The university needs to change its staff from the administration down to the security officers. It is time to regain our dignity by improving our systems”. Very correct information stated that will change the University of Papua New Guinea, if these hint is not taken with the value its has, the University will still face issues.
