THINGS turned out well for Cosmos FC yesterday as they beat Maclaren FC 3-0 in their Port Moresby Soccer Association’s Premier League fixture at the Bisini Soccer Grounds.
It didn’t take long for Cosmos to score with Maso Haro making a statement five minutes in while the Maclaren defence was still warming up. Knowing they were in front, Cosmos players communicated well from the back to the midfield and up front which saw them dominate field position as Haro tested McLaren with another left foot thunderbolt missed.
Cosmos kept their composure, looked better organised and controlled the ball efficiently in the opening 20 minutes.
With good field position, Cosmos could have scored more goals but the Maclaren’s defence kept them at bay until 26th minute when some neat short passing saw Troy Dobbiu score his side’s second goal. Cosmos dominance continued in the first half as they found the net for the third time through Jimmy Aifa.
In search of answers trailing 3-0, Maclaren threw in substitutes led by former National Soccer League player Kelvin Kensen.
The changes resulted in a change of complexion in the game as McLaren began camp in Cosmos half and had several looks at the opposition goal but nothing came of it for the score to remain 3-0 at halftime.
Cosmos reverted to a holding pattern in the second half and put the onus back on McLaren to make things happen.
Maclaren had their chances but Cosmos’ defence did enough to frustrate and nullify them to finish up with good win.
