Council supports industry by reviving policies

THE PNG Business Council is supporting the PNG creative industry in reviving its policies to protect and promote artists’ artefacts.
Second-year law students of the University of PNG conducted a survey of local artists on how to revive the industry.
Council survey co-ordinator Dika Kwa told The National that the survey would improve the creative industry which is being almost ignored by the Government.
“We have that interest to support and promote our creative industry despite a lack of attention from the Government,” Kwa said.
“That’s why we have engaged the students to help us with the survey.
“We have local artists (who) need a market to sell their products. But how will they be able to do that?”
The second POM City Markets held last weekend was an opportunity for the council to send students to conduct the survey.
From the survey feedback, the business council will look through the issues affecting the industry and come up with solutions to promote the industry and create opportunities for artists.
“We want to create a way for them to become SME owners.
“At the moment there is no policy that protects the creative industry so with the survey the team leaders of the council will come up with something to protect and promote the industry.”
