Council takes AIDS Day celebrations to communities

THE National AIDS Council (NAC) has taken World AIDS Day celebrations into smaller communities and settlements this year so everyone can be aware of the disease that continues to kill many people.
ATS residents in Port Moresby celebrated World AIDS day in their community instead of joining the bigger celebration at Jack Pidik Park yesterday.
The celebrations began with a float in the morning from ATS to 4-Mile and back again.
It finished off with sports activities, drama and quiz.
Resident Agnes Alvin thanked the NAC for hosting the celebrations and conducting awareness in the small communities and settlements.
“HIV/AIDS awareness has been brought into settlements and now everyone knows what HIV/AIDS is and what World AIDS Day means,” she said.
Alvin said most people in the settlements and smaller communities did not know what HIV/AIDS was. But now they have a better idea.

  • That is the way forward NAC – We are always talking Port Moresby, What about the other centres of PNG NAC.Our Provincial Aids Offices do not have funds for such celebrations.
Can NAC in future fund these activities in the other Province of PNG as well?
