A NATIONAL alcohol advisory council will be established next year to look into problems associated with alcohol abuse.
Law and Justice Sector Programme director Joe Kanekane revealed this during the graduation of 20 alcohol and drug abuse educators at the Louis Vangeke Awareness Centre in Port Moresby on Saturday.
He said the government had realised the severity of the problem and decided to have a  body to deal with it.
He said the council would focus on finding ways to address the increase in alcohol abuse.
“The committee will not work alone but with partners in the industry like South Pacific Brewery and churches,” Kanekane said.
He said documents were being prepared to set up the committee. The council would be launched next year once funding and office space were finalised.
