THE Papua New Guinea Games Council is to meet today and tomorrow in Port Moresby to discuss the preparedness of the host province, Southern Highlands, in delivering the end-of-year showpiece event.
Chairman Albert Veratau said in a statement yesterday that his council would discuss a way forward for all stakeholders.
“The PNG Games is the flagship event for the PNG Sports Foundation,” the foundation chief executive said.
“We will strive for quality and quantity. Our approach is to give every opportunity for participating provinces to expose their skills and raw talents at a higher level.
“We are a country of more than eight million people and it is our responsibility to ensure a pathway like the PNG Games is attainable for all who aspire to represent their province and our country as a whole.”
With the Coronavirus pandemic affecting plans over the past three years, Veratau said the eventual hosting of the event was in the hands of the province and host organising committee.
“This event, while headed by host organising committee, needs support from all business houses, corporate partners, politicians, the people of Southern Highlands and surrounding Highlands provinces to get their heads together and take ownership of the Games,” he said.
“It will only be the second Games hosted in the Highlands behind Goroka.”
Veratau assured stakeholders, sponsors and partners of the commitment of the foundation and committee to deliver the Games.
