Councillor: Process complicated
The National, Friday February 5th, 2016
A councillor in the National Capital District has raised concern on the processes of seeking essential services from MPs.
Morata Ward 10 councillor Jonathan Afuti told The National yesterday that since being appointed ward councillor by Governor Powes Parkop in 2002, the fight began.
He said for 13 years he had been writing letters to get essential services into a settlement but failed because a proper urban development proposal was required.
“I wrote letter after letter and handed them to the office of the MP for Moresby North West hoping that my request for land title, water, electricity, good roads, better schools and clinics among others would be granted,” he said.
“I was good at letter writing and questioned myself why my plea to get vital services for my people had fallen on deaf years.
“On many occasions, I was asked to come up with a proper project proposal so that my requests would be granted.
“I had no idea about drawing up such a complicated urban development plan until I met the managing director of Kingdom Estates and Associates Elijah Psalmson Ulg who helped me.”
