Countdown to independence starts at women’s trade centre

Business

As the countdown to the 43rd independence anniversary celebrations starts, entrepreneur Leonie Peter has made it her business to design and produce anniversary shirts to sell before Sept 16.
Peter, a mother of five and originally from Southern Highlands, has a stall at the Pacifika Women Network Trade Centre in Port Moresby.
She told The National that the anniversary shirts she was selling was just one of the
many PNG-designed shirts in her stall.
Peter, who struggled to find a job after obtaining a diploma in business management at the Innovative Training Institute in Port Moresby, said she
had to look at alternatives to find ways to make a living and starting up a small business to produce and sell PNG-designed shirts was once only a
dream.
“To be in the business is a dream come true although the business is just three months old,” she said.
Peter said when she found out Pacifika Women Network Trade Centre had space available, she applied for a stall.
